LOS ANGELES -- Anze Kopitar scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period, and Jonathan Quick made 27 saves in the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 preseason victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night. Justin Williams had a power-play goal and an assist for the Kings, who beat their Southern California rivals twice in the preseason. Hampus Lindholm scored a power-play goal and Viktor Fasth stopped 31 shots for the Ducks. Kopitar put the Kings ahead on a give-and-go with Dwight King, chipping the puck past Fasth for his second preseason goal. Los Angeles is hoping for a bounce-back season from Kopitar, who led the Kings in scoring last year despite the lowest goals-per-game and shots-per-game averages of his career. Ohio State is on an upswing once again however, inching closer to admittance back into the polls, thanks to wins over Northwestern (69-67) and most recently, Indiana (82-70). Ohio State owns a 4-2 series advantage against Maryland, with this marking the first-ever meeting as Big Ten rivals. These two teams met last year in Columbus as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, a game won by Ohio State, 76-60. The Terrapins saved their best for last, as a Dez Wells tip-in with under two seconds left to play propelled Maryland to a one-point win over Northwestern. Loving is a distant second in the scoring column for Ohio State at 11.3 ppg, followed closely by Sam Thompsons 10.1 ppg.
